1338 May 19th. Thomas Clay of Brampton to John de Newbold of Chesterfield, John the tanner and John Whittington - grant of 5 acres of land with meadow and all other appurtenances lying in the fields called “Halfield Catulyn” in Brampton to hold etc - which William Clay holds for 12 pence. (Deeds of the Gild of the Blessed Mary) - TNA Ref.- C47/38/45 mm. 3 - 6.

1621. Kniveton Clay witness in land dispute at Cutthorpe. Brampton. (He lived at Walton in Chesterfield parish). DRO Ref.- D5812/1 - 3.

1627. William Clay gentleman of Nottingham concerning land in Brampton, Newbold, South Normanton, Alfreton, Higham etc. (DRO Ref -D37M/RT174 - 175).

1628. Francis Clay. Juror at Cutthorpe. Brampton. Inquisition of George Heathcote. (TNA).

1650 November 29th. Hercules Clay - In consideration of £230 granted to Godfrey Watkinson a Close in Brampton called Blackholm also a Close in Newbold called Brockhills and land in Snipsick. (Ref.- Yeatman Vol 3 section 5.). 

1661 -1662. Will of John Greaves of Brampton. - his daughter is Elizabeth Clay and her daughter is Anne Clay his grandaughter. (Staffordshire Record Office).

1668 / 9. March 10th. John Clay of Ashgate. Brampton concerning messuages and lands at Norton. (Derbyshire Record Office Ref.- D369/G/ZT/27).

1708. Thomas Clay of Cutthorpe. Brampton parish husbandman was crushed between a gatepost and the wheel of a cartload of stone being drawn by 3 mares he was driving, the mares were startled by an ass. (DDP. Index book Notts Archive Office).

1730. January 27th. Brampton Lease. Tenements, Closes etc occupied lately by Mr John Clay and now by Mr Benjamin Clay called the Barnfield with a barn, the Little and Great Coast Closes, The Farr, Narr Bothams and the Furlong to Roger Wragg of Ashgate Brampton for 11 years at £28 rent. (Ref.- Notts Archives DDP53/27).

1801. February 5th. Derby Mercury. Married lately at Brampton John Clay esq of North Wingfield to Miss Barnes of Ashgate.

1805. Removal Order. Ann Clay removed from Brampton to Chesterfield. (Ref.- RM7/121).

1882. October.14th. Derbyshire Times Newspaper. Auction Property at Cutthorpe. - Messuage, shop, orchard, crofts 1 acre 2 rood 29 perches on the south west side of Mellor Lane. Cutthorpe in occupation of William Clay.  

1200s. A Bovate of land near Clay Furlong. - gift by Robert de Brampton to Louth Abbey. (Ref .- DRO. - D1005Z/E1).

1801.Feb.5th. Derby Mercury newspaper. For Sale. Lot 4.- 204 Oaks in the wood called Bessy Clays Hagg.

1849. Lease of a bed of Potters Clay under a close at Brampton. - (Sheffield Archives Ref.- Bar.D856).
