 1775. Nottingham Journal. October 14th. page 2. column 3.  John Clay - Run away from Welby in Melton Mowbray parish. Leicestershire, stealing various items from George Pennistone of Welby with whom he lodged and taking the wages of his workmate William Hack. John Clay who had worked there since May as a timber sawyer, he is about 6 feet high, short red hair, light coloured coat, buckskin breeches,round hat and blue waistcoat, he took with him a gun, the barrel of it near five feet long. He took with him a woman whom he called his wife and a man who came to see him on Sunday night and called him his brother. Says he came from Monyash (in Bakewell parish)  Derbyshire. "Half a guinea reward"

1890. Sept.10th. Derby Mercury Newspaper. Bakewell Show. Mark Clay of Bakewell winner in show - 3 fleeces of ewe wool.

1899. Will of Catherine Clay of Bakewell widow probate granted to Mark Clay farmer. (Derbyshire Record Office Ref.- D96/1/42 page 675).

1900. April 4th. Sheffield Independant Newspaper. Mark Clay was elected as a Councillor at Bakewell.

1901. Will of Edmond Clay of Monyash Road Bakewell. Died at Clitheroe. Lancashire on 7th August 1901. (Derbyshire Record Office Ref.- D96/1/44 page 893).

1902. Jan. 8th. Mark Clay age 38 married Ellen Grindey age 30 at Bakewell.

1917. Oct.19th. Bakewell Show.- Mark Clay of Manor Farm. Over Haddon won prizes - also is on the committee and a steward at the show.

1921 Census Over Haddon.  Mark Clay.  Ellen Clay.  Amy Clay.  Mark Grindy Clay and 4 others.

1923. August 11th. Derbyshire Times.- Bakewell Show.- Mark Clay of Over Haddon 3rd prize for a pen of ewes. 1st and 2nd prize for 3 fleeces of wool, 2nd prize for a sheaf of oats.- Miss Edna Clay of Hall Farm. Rowsley 3rd prize for butter.- List of officials - J. W. Clay  of Beeley. - List of judges -  Mrs M. Clay of Over Haddon.

1944. May 24th. Will of Mark Clay of Manor Farm. Over Haddon. Bakewell who died 11th March 1944 probate granted to Ellen Clay widow. (Ref.- London Probate Office).
